Piojos

In English, that would be called "head lice." Ahh yes, the wonderful "bugs" were discovered yesterday in Caroline's hair at the kids salon. Poor thing was full of "piojos!" This is very common coming from an orphanage...but, I checked a few times and did not see anything. We think she had them return (as she had them several times at Pisingos) from the other kiddos staying at the hotel. It seems every older child we have come in contact with has had them. So, I'm glad we ventured to the salon for an over due haircut!

Isabel also needed a haircut. It was a very fun experience (other than the lice), as they received royal treatment with braids, lip gloss, balloons, and a sucker. She did not think Isabel had any "piojos." But, to play it safe, we had a prescription sent for all of us.

Silas was hilarious last night when I tucked him in bed...He put his arm out stopping me from giving him a kiss..."Mom do not come near me, no kisses or story tonight...I do NOT want those naughty bugs!"The medicine kicked in with Caroline last night as there were mucho piojos in her bed, and pajamas this morning...ugh! Poor thing struggled with the "itchies" through out the night. I too, discovered just a few piojos in my bed and Silas' bed...so, we are off to la tienda (store) to get some special shampoo for all of us...I think that will work, as the prescription drops were very strong that we took yesterday.

So, this New Years Day will be spent removing and checking for bugs in each other's hair...from little one...to me...Isabel is very excited about this! She continues to amaze me on this journey...

  1. VanderMaas Family -

So good to hear from you all again! WE are so happy you could enjoy our wonderful Savior's birthday as a family of 6 :) What an amazing gift you have been given in your two new daughters. God is amazing, mighty to be praised!

We are sorry to hear about the bug stories and unfortunate car sickness, but are glad to again be able to follow what you are doing. We miss you guys!

We too had a great Christmas - low-key and great just being together as a family to celebrate Jesus' birthday. We got the kids a Wii, so we have had many tournaments and fun with that. Who knew boys could be so competitive - LOL!

We celebrated New Years Eve at a local hotel with hot tub and pool, and the boys were so exhausted, we turned out the lights at 10 and went to bed. We got up the next morning and swam some more. We had fun, but we will all need to turn in early tonight :)

Thankfully, we continue to be safe and healthy; however, Chase did sled into a tree last week and managed to go to the ER. Thankfully, he was given a choice about stitches (under his chin), so they butterflyed him shut instead of 2 stitches, cleaned him up, and sent us on our way. He hit his nose, cut his lip, and cut his gums too. I tell ya. He's a tough little guy!

Are you coming home in 12 days, REALLY?! We are so excited for you. I can't believe it! We will definitely be praying for you, Kristi, as you go it alone, but you are simply an amazing mom and will deal with what comes your way with patience and love. You're amazing!!!

Take care of yourselves. We'll be praying for you. Hope to talk to you soon!

  2. Oh I had a 'Jesus smile' after reading this entry! God is sooo at work molding and sculpting you during some challenging ways, His ways! Blind eyes watch and wonder but I know why you can endure, because God is your strength! God is actively molding you to be more beautiful for Him! You walk daily by faith knowing it brings you closer to your heavenly Father! That vomit and tantrums and lice are all nescessary to accomplish His good work in and thru your lives! So praise God from whom all "blessings?" flow! I'm so proud of your strength in Him! Continue to cling to Him throughout the ride cause He's not finish! You're still under construction!
    I Peter 1:6-9
"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer bad cicumstances. These have come so that your faith-(greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire)-may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls." Shalom and encouragement to your soul!

  3. Oh no Kristi!! I was SO hoping that you would all avoid this trial! I recall vividly having lice as a child and dread the day one of my children come home with it! Just what is the Colombian prescription to cure head lice?? I've heard it refered to before. I'm sure you will have had your fill of nit picking by days end! Hang in there girls and Silas, smart boy for wanting to stay away, be thankful for your short hair :) I'll bet Dad at home is even iching at the thought of all this :)
We send our love, hang in there!!! Happy New Year!
